Luxury meets tradition in Manila Hotel’s Chinese New Year celebration

The Grand Dame’s chandeliers were lit in red and gold welcoming the Lunar New Year last January 31. The early morning festivity was greeted by animated performers of a special dragon and lion dance dancing to the vibrant beat of drums and a vivid display of colourful fabrics.

Afterwards, Hong-Kong based Feng Shui Master Vittorio Chau led a special blessing ceremony to kick off the celebrations at the hotel’s Grand Lobby. He also sat with guests at the Mabuhay Palace where he advised them how to attract good fortune for the year ahead.

Patrons enjoyed this feast to the senses as interactive displays of Chinese imperial horses adorned the Grand Lobby. Beside these symbols of speed and perseverance stood a peach tree where guests hung their wish cards. A Prosperity Booth was also set up where guests can choose from a premium selection of nian gao (tikoy) that may be gifted to loved ones in time for the holiday.

“The Manila Hotel has been home to many important traditions celebrated by Filipinos, including Chinese New Year. We ensure that our patrons leave our halls with a smile on their faces because of the memories they create and relive whenever they step inside the Hotel,” said Manila Hotel Executive Vice President Dr. Enrique “Ricky” Yap, Jr. “From the Mabuhay Palace’s signature dishes to the visual feast in our Grand Lobby, we eagerly delight our guests with the way the Grand Dame celebrates the occasion.”

Dr. Yap further shared how the Manila Hotel plans on diving into creating new milestones for its patrons. “Aside from welcoming the Year of the Wooden Horse with best wishes and hopes for everyone, the Chinese New Year has always been a symbol for new beginnings and of grander visions of things to come. We hope to surpass our guests’ expectations this 2014 as we remain faithful to our commitment of world-class service.”
