Barbie is 55 years old but admittedly, still a popular toy doll. She has sported different careers (astronaut, doctor, teacher, etc.), different skin tones, different nationalities, different (24) hair styles, different (22) eye colors, have ‘Disney Princess-like’ movies (remember the Barbie Princess series? I do, still watch ’em on some weekends) inspiring kids aside from being a dress-me-up-doll. So this year, Mattel decided to make ‘realistic’ and ‘differently-shaped’ versions – *slow clap*
“These new dolls represent a line that is more reflective of the world girls see around them – the variety in body type, skin tones and style allows girls to find a doll that speaks to them,” Evelyn Mazzocco, senior vice president of Barbie, said.
Barbie had to “grow with the times” Richard Dickson, president and chief operating officer of Mattel, said.
The new ‘Fashionista Barbie’ versions are available since January 28. But wait, there’s more!
So how about Ken? Well, Twitter users were quick to demand that Barbie’s boyfriend (or is it boy-friend) should also have ‘realistic’ and ‘differently-sized’ versions.
So, Lyst.co.uk released their ‘Fashionisto’ range (Boasting Bearded Hipster Ken, Balding Ken, and Beach DadBod Ken, alongside black, Asian and petite Kens)
Personally, let’s just leave Ken alone, ok?
